Engagement Director, Social stability

The world is in a polycrisis, with multiple challenges such as climate change, democratic backsliding and conflicts increasing in frequency and severity. This has led to a degradation of the structures needed for stable societies in the Global South in particular. It falls upon us to build systems that respond to the current challenges. It is imperative that we apply the tools from behavioral science to tackle the most pressing problems of our time in order to build stable societies that are inclusive and free from conflicts.

I have been at Busara for close to a decade, and in that time I have worked towards this goal by working to build responsive and inclusive political systems with civil society organizations, equitable and resilient economic systems with donor agencies as well as effective and reliable public service delivery with researchers and governments. At the heart of these initiatives, my work has focused on improving cooperation and trust at an individual level, building social cohesion within communities and strengthening social contracts between citizens and their governments. At the moment, I lead the Social Stability Portfolio housed within Busara’s Behavioral Science for Governance (BeGov) cluster where we bridge research with policy practice, working collaboratively with our partners to build tools that build the resilience of communities to respond to today’s challenges. In this regard, we are conducting rigorous experiments, capacity strengthening and innovation to help our partners serve their communities more effectively. We also have close to 10 years of experience with strategic partnerships across East Africa with CSOs, governments, donors and other social institutions in building more responsive and inclusive governance systems.  In the long term, I am committed to seeing more experimentation and the application of evidence by our partners to build resilient communities.

I am a member of the Midwest Political Science Association (MPSA) and an alumni of the African Union Youth Volunteer Corps (AU-YVC). I previously served as a consultant for the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and Nottawasaga Institute and also worked for the Japan Overseas Cooperation Association (JOCA) and Pan-African Youth Union (PYU). I have an MA in International Relations from Universita Cattolica del Sacro Cuore and a BA in International Relations from the United States International University (USIU).
