I’m interested in how people make decisions within systems that often don’t work in their favour- and how those systems can be made fairer. My work primarily focuses on smallholder farmers, informal vendors, and low-income consumers.

At Busara, I’m currently working on two projects: one looks at how coffee procurement can be made more sustainable for smallholder farmers in Kenya and Uganda; the other focuses on reducing fruit and vegetable waste in traditional markets in Kenya and Nigeria while building capacity for behavioural approaches in these contexts.

So far, I’ve worked on how to make surplus produce more accessible to low-income consumers in Kenya, how to support the uptake of more sustainable farming technologies, ways forward for agri-businesses and how to improve training-of-trainers models for cocoa farmers in the Ivory Coast. Across these, I aim to stay close to the ground: listening, questioning, and working towards practical solutions that fit the people they’re meant to serve.

Before joining Busara, I worked across public and private organisations on sustainability, social impact, and environmental governance issues. These experiences, in contexts as different as India and France, gave me a practical understanding of how institutions approach long-term challenges — and how that often contrasts with what happens on the ground.

I studied Political Science at Leiden University, where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a focus on international relations. Alongside core political theory and global systems courses, the programme placed a strong emphasis on academic research methods. I also pursued a minor in sustainable development, an interdisciplinary track, which looked at how environmental and social systems interact within planetary boundaries. This interest took me to Indonesia for a field research programme on marine ecosystems and local ecological knowledge.
