OVERVIEW
The YUVAA program implemented by Pathfinder International in India aims to improve access to family planning (FP) information and contraceptive choices. The goal is to positively shift gender and social norms around family planning behavior by delivering customized messages and interventions to young married couples. The programme identifies common barriers related to trust and credibility, agency and power, knowledge of family planning, priority of FP, and safety and support. These barriers include mistrust of information channels, limited autonomy in decision-making, lack of awareness and accurate information about FP methods, conflicting priorities, and inadequate support for dealing with side effects of contraceptives.
