The Becker Friedman Institute for Economics (BFI) at the University of Chicago has joined Busara as a key sponsor for the Economic Science Association (ESA) Africa Conference hosted by Busara and Nairobi Evidence Week running from June 23rd-27th, building on years of strong collaboration between UChicago and Busara.
The theme of the Nairobi Evidence Week is Improving lives through better methods, data, and collaboration. The week brings together the Africa Evidence Summit (June 23 – 24) and the ESA Africa conference and brings together researchers, policy actors, and practitioners dedicated to the application of evidence, improved methods, and reliable data to address evolving policy and development priorities.
BFI serves as a hub for cutting-edge analysis and research across the entire University of Chicago economics community, and is committed to uncover new ways of thinking about economics. BFI puts those ideas into action by translating rigorous research into accessible and relevant formats, and proactively disseminating it to key decision-makers around the world. Busara and the collaboration with University of Chicago spans many fronts from co-designing courses—including one led by Mareike Schomerus, VP of Busara Voice & Impact— to impactful projects within the development space.
“Researchers need spaces where they can exchange ideas, learn new methods, and debate the evidence. The ESA Africa conference offers just that. We’re pleased to be part of this initiative,” said Benjamin Krause, Executive Director at BFI.
“The University of Chicago and BFI have always been strong partners to Busara. Partnering with them once again under the umbrella of ESA Africa signals their commitment to and investment in a collaborative and contextualized approach to research,” said Engy Saleh, Director of Behavioral Research and Academic Engagements at Busara.
