Biography
As a behavioral scientist deeply committed to advancing the well-being of communities in non-WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic) countries, I am passionate about using insights from behavioral science to address poverty and drive sustainable social change. My work centers on understanding the subtle psychological, social, and cultural factors that influence decision-making and applying this knowledge to create practical, scalable solutions that empower marginalized populations to thrive. Through ongoing research and community-centered interventions, I have seen firsthand the transformative potential of behavioral science to not only alleviate poverty but also shift mindsets and behaviors toward long-term, meaningful change.
I am currently working on a Bill & Mellinda Gates Foundation funded project aimed at understanding how household decision-making and gender dynamics affect women’s uptake of insurance. Through mixed-method surveys and innovative game-based data collection methods, we aim to identify whether low uptake is driven by prioritisation of family needs and/or lack of independence in financial decision-making. I have won many hats at Busara including and not limited to Research compliance, accounting, project management including executing projects that have eventually led to development of appropriate behavioural interventions that have culminated into behaviourally informed solutions in betterment of products and services.
Busara outputs:
1. Care Infant study
2. GSMA
3. Vegetable Consumption
4. Gates Lean Producers Direct
5. VCF
6. VAX UP
7. Shell Foundation
I have gained valuable experience working on climate change adaptation and energy efficiency projects, particularly in rural communities in Kenya, where I collaborated with organizations such as Ecofrontier in Tharaka Nithi County and Carbon Zero Kenya in Kisumu. My role in these projects involved a range of tasks, including conducting baseline assessments to gather critical data on community needs and energy usage, as well as performing Organizational Capacity Assessments (OCA) to evaluate the readiness and strengths of local organizations in implementing climate adaptation strategies.Additionally, I played an active role in community mobilization efforts, engaging with local stakeholders to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable energy solutions and to encourage active participation in the projects.
