David Muruaru
Senior Policy Communications Officer

I enjoy transforming research into accessible and actionable insights that empower communities through dialogue, participation, and collaboration among different actors. I work with research teams within Busara, transforming findings into clear and actionable insights for diverse audiences. I identify and cultivate collaborative opportunities with policymakers, civil society, academia, and other key stakeholders, fostering engagement to build influence that leads to evidence-based actions. I collaborate with teams focused on behavioral governance strategies to strengthen citizen participation, bridging policymakers and communities to improve the process of policymaking by anchoring interventions in the local context and human behavior.

Previously, I led programs, advocacy, and stakeholder engagement at MasterPeace Kenya, a nonprofit focused on peacebuilding and civic participation. I also contributed to the Kenyanist, a platform that convenes academics, community actors, and policymakers to explore Kenya’s public policy landscape. My earlier roles include working in public affairs at Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and working with Lotus Consulting as a Communications and Research Associate. Before that, I worked with the Centre for Human Rights and Policy Studies, where I introduced digital media into policy advocacy. I have also worked with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), supporting civic education and electoral processes in past elections.

I am a member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK), a member of the Youth Serving Organizations (YSO-Kenya), and an alumnus of the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI). I serve on the board of directors at MasterPeace Kenya, focused on building systems that support young people to act as change agents in their communities. I am also a certified leadership coach with Clarity 4D, helping leaders to build their leadership potential through personal growth and sector positioning, thought leadership, and team development, leveraging personality-based coaching tools. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Communications and a Master’s in International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid.
