Biography
David Muruaru
Senior Policy Communications Officer

As a person who naturally enjoys learning, I love working in roles where I can transform research outcomes into learning opportunities for people. I therefore work with teams that generate knowledge and insights that benefit society particularly in poverty alleviation. Currently at Busara, my work revolves around transforming research reports into insights and in language that is relatable to different audiences. Working with Busara has given me the opportunity to learn how behavioral science can transform development outcomes through interventions that pay attention to the context and behavioral elements of individuals and communities. For instance, working with the Behavioural Governance Cluster has given me insights into how different stakeholder groups can better civic engagement and nurture meaningful change, and ultimately enhance accountability mechanisms within our governance systems and institutions.

Previously, I managed programs, advocacy, and stakeholder engagements at MasterPeace Kenya, a non-profit. In addition, I worked with the Kenyanist, a show that dives into Kenya’s public policy to understand Kenyans socio-economic and political issues. I also previously worked in public affairs at Kenya’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Before that, I worked with Lotus Consulting as a communications and research associate managing research, insights gathering, communications, media monitoring, and public policy projects for clients. My journey started at the Centre for Human Rights and Policy Studies where, as a communications and research assistant, I introduced digital media in policy advocacy. I have on different occasions worked with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission managing civic education and elections.

I am a member of the Public Relations Society of Kenya (PRSK) and belong to the consortium of the Youth Serving Organizations (YSO-Kenya). These networks are a learning opportunity and enrich my work in supporting research and technical teams to engage with different audiences. Further, I am a YALI alumni and an accredited leadership coach with Clarity 4D, a tool that leverages on personality building for personal and team development. Currently, I am pursuing a Master’s in International Cooperation and Humanitarian Aid and have a Bachelor’s in Political Science and Communications from the University of Nairobi.
