Biography
Isaac Obara
Senior Research Officer, BRACE

I am passionate about using behavioral science and community-based research to understand the everyday challenges people face in making decisions. At Busara, we apply these insights to create practical solutions that improve outcomes and reduce poverty, believing that meaningful change begins with research that is respectful, locally rooted, and focused on real-world impact.

I serve as a Senior Research Officer, where I lead lab and field studies that explore human behavior and decision-making in complex settings. My current work focuses on mental health and job search among unemployed youth in Kenya. This lab-based study seeks to understand how young adults search for jobs and make decisions at work while evaluating the impact of mental health interventions, particularly Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), on job search behavior and outcomes. I am actively involved in implementing the study and have played a key role in contextualizing the interventions for the local setting.

Before Busara, I worked in various research roles, including Field Officer at IPA and Field Assistant at ILRI, focusing on community health, WASH, and child protection programs. My early career was grounded in grassroots-level data collection and community mobilization, shaping my interest in applied behavioral research.
