Our values

Act with curiosity

We want to learn. We want to never stop asking the difficult questions in our work. We want to meet each other with openness and interest.

Act with respect

We want our work to be thoughtful and of high quality. We want to fulfill the need that we originally identified in pursuing a piece of work. We are careful about the complex issues we tackle, and mindful of the huge impact they have on people’s real lives.

Act together

We are collaborators, seeking to actively share knowledge and perspectives. We seek to communicate and contribute to achieving our shared purpose.

Act with purpose

We want to keep a clear line of sight of why we do what we do. We want to take responsible ownership of our work, and be held accountable to the standards we set for ourselves.

Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI)

Our mission and values require that we engage with, and incorporate, diverse voices. We believe that respecting and valuing individuals, communities and partners, and recognising the unique voice and perspectives that each brings, is essential to the application of Busara’s approach to behavioral science. For us, diversity, equity and inclusion encompasses gender, class, religion, tribe, language, caste, age, race and other manifestations of differentiated experiences.

We're hiring

Our staff come from 18 countries, 99% live outside of the US and Europe (and the 1% will move out eventually).

To live diversity, we cherish varied knowledge traditions within the team, and seek to include these in our work in meaningful ways while constantly learning how to do it better.

We have a human-centered approach, meaning we co-create solutions with communities and partners. Very intentionally, we are based in and rooted in the places where we work. Our team lives and works across Africa, Asia and Latin America which enables us to provide contextualised solutions.

Our investment in local talent is a core part of who we are and can only do the work we do because we are headquartered in Kenya with offices in India, Nigeria, Uganda, and Tanzania and operational presence in many other locations in the Global South.

We are thoughtful about our policies, processes and pay structures to minimize our biases while rewarding and recognizing performance.

Ultimately expecting our teams and leadership to infuse these policies with the spirit and attitude needed to create and protect an environment of dignity, diversity, equity and inclusion.
